Balaton storm: rain, snow, gale hitting today! 🌪️
On Lake Balaton's northern shore and in the Bakony, rain will turn to snow from late afternoon ⏰ with up to 15 centimetres of fresh snow, while stormy winds strengthen – a serious challenge for coastal residents and early spring visitors alike. From Keszthely through Balatonfüred to Tapolca the weather front affects the region, where slippery roads may complicate travel.
According to the meteorological warning, western counties including Veszprém and Zala will see heavy precipitation, which may cause problems at the Balaton too. Higher Bakony areas may receive thick snow cover, bringing avalanche risk or icy roads on serpentines to the Balaton Uplands. 🌪️ Combined with gale-force winds, lakeside promenades require caution, especially for boats moored in harbours.
For locals this may mean cancelled weekend shopping or farm work, while holidaymakers preparing for the Easter season should expect delays on the M7 or route 71. Lakeside municipalities prepare gritting, but we advise: stay home if you can and follow fresh forecasts. No excursion boats launch on the lake today, so water tourism is paused.
Despite changeable weather, the Balaton's spring beauty remains – but today it's better admired from indoors. ❄️ Refresh winter car equipment and watch the news!
