Balaton Fidesz forum: surprising silence instead of war? 😲
In the heart of the northern shore of Lake Balaton, in Balatonfüred 🗳️, one of the key events of the constituency campaign took place on Friday, where the Fidesz candidate, Barbara Hegedűs, held a forum. For local residents and holiday home owners, this is not just a national policy: the fate of Veszprém district 2 directly affects lakeside developments, the tourist season and the future of the beaches.
The candidate of the Tisza Party, Ágnes Forsthoffer, emphasized during the day that they are campaigning against a huge headwind, as their opponents are gaining more ground with the support of the local governments. In and around Balatonfüred - just think of Csopak or Alsóörs - this means that the Fidesz candidate can more easily reach the locals who struggle with the everyday problems of life on the shores of Balaton: lack of parking, water quality, holiday tax.
We also visited the forum of Barbara Hegedűs, expecting the usual war narrative or Péter Magyar's attacks, but we were disappointed. The candidate spoke more about local matters: lake protection programs, the expansion of bicycle paths and the upcoming visit of Viktor Orbán, which could be promising for the Balaton infrastructure. 🌊 There was no mention of Ukraine or great power tensions, instead the audience's questions were about boosting tourism and extending the season.
For the locals, this is crucial: a stable constituency can decide on Lake Balaton renovations and the modernization of ports, without which holidaymakers may leave. And the inequalities of the campaign raise the question of whether all voices are heard from the coastal villages, where tourism is the basis of livelihood.
