❄️ Balaton snowstorm: Nonstop labor dumping!
Friday's strong wind and snow also gave firefighters continuous work on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, in Zala County, where fallen trees and broken branches made traffic in the settlements around the lake difficult. They intervened on many roads from Keszthely to Balatonlelle, while the blowing snow made life miserable for the locals and winter guests. ❄️
Firefighters were called to 377 locations throughout the country by early evening: two-thirds of the cases were necessitated by branches and fallen trees in strong winds, and technical rescue was carried out in one-third of road accidents. Most of the tasks were given in the counties of Zala, Vas and Győr-Moson-Sopron, where the roads leading to Lake Balaton - such as highway 7 or the access roads to Balaton - caused slips and obstacles in some places due to blowing snow.
In the region, this particularly affects the Balaton communities: in the coastal villages, such as Balatonmáriafürdő or Fenékpuszta, fallen trees endangered houses and gardens, while slippery roads made shopping and going to school difficult. In winter, the situation also caused problems for vacationers traveling for wellness tourism, many were stranded due to minor accidents. Thanks to the quick work of the firefighters, the main Balaton routes became passable by evening, but the authorities recommend additional caution for the weekend. 🌬️
Around Lake Balaton, winter is thus a continuous challenge for disaster management, emphasizing the region's exposure to weather extremes.
