Burning car causes disruption on M7 towards Lake Balaton 🔥

At one of the busiest gateways to Lake Balaton's southern shore, near Siófok, weekend traffic chaos broke out: on the M7 towards Budapest at kilometre 96 a car caught fire. Flames quickly engulfed the whole vehicle, so Siófok professional firefighters had to extinguish it with three water jets 🔥 to stop it spreading to the carriageway.

Both passengers fortunately left the car before the flames fully developed, so there were no personal injuries. Firefighters completely closed the affected section during investigation and firefighting, causing serious disruption for holidaymakers heading home from the Balaton and locals returning to weekend houses.

Siófok, the lake's most popular resort, is especially sensitive to any M7 disruption. In summer tens of thousands of cars pass daily; a closure affects not only traffic but local restaurants, beaches and accommodation. Firefighters' swift action however prevented greater damage in the region.
