Snow wonder at the Balaton? ❄️

BalatonLife

Residents and holidaymakers in the Balaton region should prepare for a series of prolonged rains – and in the Bakony up to 10–15 centimetres of snow may fall on Thursday! ☔️❄️ Northern shore towns such as Balatonfüred or the Tihany area may be especially affected, where upland terrain may bring precipitation as snow, complicating traffic and daily life.

According to the weather service, the second half of the week brings generous rain across much of Transdanubia, including the Balaton basin. Change starts Thursday from late morning: snow begins in the Sopron and Kőszeg hills, then turns white in the Bakony by afternoon. This most affects those on the northern side and travellers around the lake – expect slippery, snowy conditions on route 71 or Balatonfüred access roads.

On the southern shore, around Siófok or Keszthely, rain dominates, which may quickly raise Balaton water levels – good news for boaters preparing for winter, but flood risk on lower areas. Locals should postpone garden work; holiday home owners should check roofs against stormy winds. Minimal tourism impact, but pack wellies for weekend trips.

Drive carefully and watch fresh alerts! Lakeside municipalities prepare salting if needed. Follow authority advice for safety.
