Chaos on South Balaton: trains stopped without power! ⚡🚂

BalatonLife

Chaos on Lake Balaton's southern shore: complete train stoppage from Siófok to Fonyód as trains halted due to power failure. 🚂⚡ Thousands of lakeside holidaymakers and commuters were stuck Sunday morning after MÁV's central traffic control lost power. At Siófok, Balatonszemes, Lelle and Fonyód stations passengers waited after weekend relaxation by the lake.

The fault was unresolved by afternoon; MÁV said the entire south Balaton line was down. Replacement buses run instead, but jams formed on route 7, further complicating Balaton traffic. Imagine: you rested on Balatonlelle beach, now waiting for a bus in early evening darkness – a typical Balaton transport nightmare, especially pre-season.

Locals are hit hardest. Many Siófok or Balatonszéplak workers commute by train to Budapest; now they must use car or bus, eating hours from lakeside life. Tourism suffers too: guests at southern campsites and hotels struggle to leave, casting a shadow on the main summer season. MÁV promises repairs, but alternative routes around the Balaton are not always faster.

Balaton residents know this well: similar faults left them trainless last summer. Sunday evening was no better, locals complained on social media. Watch the MÁV app for fresh info – hopefully south shore rail life restarts tomorrow.
