The city's former mayor, Lajos Kepli, was sentenced by the Veszprém District Court to a fine of 600,000 forints for illegal data collection after installing a hidden camera and microphone in the notary's office.

The devices were hidden in the cable duct of the air conditioning system, allowing the former city leader to monitor events in the office from anywhere via his phone. He reviewed the recordings multiple times between May 2021 and March 2022, and the equipment remained operational until March 2025, when it was discovered during the installation of the alarm system.

For local residents around Lake Balaton, trust in the local government is a particularly sensitive issue. Such hidden surveillance not only affected the daily lives of municipal employees but also conveyed the message that the transparency of the city leadership is questionable. In the period since the 2022 resignation, many had hoped that calm would return to the settlement, but the verdict has now once again brought old tensions to the surface.
