Narancssárga riasztás a Balatonnál: éjjel zivatarok jönnek ⚡

Orange Alert at Lake Balaton: Thunderstorms Coming at Night ⚡

BalatonLife

The southern shoreline of Lake Balaton, especially the settlements of Somogy county, is most directly affected by the orange alert issued by HungaroMet. From the early evening hours, severe thunderstorms are expected to develop in the region, which may bring locally significant precipitation, stormy winds and even 2-4 cm hail.

According to the meteorological forecast, thunderstorm systems may organize rapidly in the evening across Transdanubia, and a few severe examples cannot be ruled out in the southwestern and southern areas. For holidaymakers and locals along the Balaton shore, this means that sudden gusts of wind (>80 km/h), cloudburst-like rainfall and larger hailstones may occur in the late evening hours, primarily along the southern shore.

The stormy weather may also seriously affect tourism: beaches may need to be cleared and boating and sailing suspended immediately. Disruptions are to be expected on the roads around the lake, especially on the main roads 71 and 7, as well as on the Siófok–Kaposvár and Balatonföldvár–Szigetvár sections, due to the storm.

The thunderstorm system reaches the Danube line around midnight, so the danger may gradually weaken by dawn in the Lake Balaton area. Locals and holidaymakers are advised to stay indoors in the evening and to follow HungaroMet updates ⛈️.
