The Balaton Matolcsy resort is advertised cheaper than its renovation cost

On the northern shore of Lake Balaton, in Balatonakarattya, the former MÁV resort has been put up for sale, which the MNB previously converted into an education and training center. For the residents of the settlement and holidaymakers in the area, this news is not merely a real estate transaction, but also raises possible changes in the lakeside real estate market and local tourism.

MNB-Ingatlan Kft. has now advertised the property at a starting price of 9.43 billion forints, although the purchase and renovation together cost nearly 20 billion forints. The general contractor was a company linked to Ádám Matolcsy, owned by Bálint Somlai, so the project entered local memory as one of the most significant investments among Balaton-side developments 🏠.

The current auction carries a dual message for locals. On one hand, the favorable starting price could bring a new owner, potentially enriching Akarattya’s offerings with a new function – for example, a hotel or conference center. On the other hand, questions arise about how the fate of the lakeside property will affect surrounding hospitality venues and summer season traffic.
