Burning Cold Storage Facility at Lake Balaton on Road 7527 🔥
Flames broke out at the gateway to the western basin of Lake Balaton, in the catchment area of Keszthely: a cold storage facility caught fire between Gelse and Kilimán, along road 7527. The fire spread quickly, and the building's roof structure collapsed, making the scene quickly one of the largest open-air deployments in the region.
Professional firefighters from Pacsa, Nagykanizsa, Zalakaros, Keszthely, Letenye and Zalaegerszeg, as well as volunteer firefighters from Gelse, arrived at the scene. Under the direction of the Zala County disaster management operational service, they are working with multiple water jets to contain the flames. 🚒
For the lakeside settlements, it is particularly important that the Keszthely units were also immediately on site – this shows how well-coordinated the region's rescue and fire protection system is, even during the summer peak season. Although the fire did not occur directly on the lake shore, the closure of road 7527 may temporarily affect traffic towards Keszthely and Zalakaros, so holidaymakers heading there may also notice the changes.
The exact extent of the damage to the cold storage facility is not yet known, but the rapid and large-scale deployment will hopefully minimize the environmental and economic impacts on the settlements near Lake Balaton.
