Has Lake Balaton turned into a sauna due to the heat? 🔥
The air around Lake Balaton has also turned into a sauna: the daytime peak temperature is around 37–38 degrees, while the lake water at Siófok is 28.5 degrees. Bathers can thus find relative relief in the water, as it is about ten degrees “cooler” than the air – at least until they step ashore.
According to HungaroMet data, Lake Velence at Agárd is even warmer at 30.5 degrees, so there is little difference in the bathing experience between the two popular resorts. The light wind turning southerly may slightly ease the heat, but in the afternoon there may be lively gusts in places, and it may temporarily strengthen near showers.
In the lakeside settlements – from Siófok to Keszthely – the heat mainly increases traffic at the beaches and catering venues. The early morning minimum temperature along the waterfront remains around 23–24 degrees, so the night brings little relief for rest either. The Balaton signaling system is operating at base level in all three basins, indicating that no special measures are needed for water traffic at this time.
The most important advice for locals and holidaymakers now is to spend as much time as possible in the water or in the shade during the midday hours, as the dry, hot weather will continue in the coming days. 🏖️🌡️
