Flames broke out next to the M7 near Balaton 🔥

Flames broke out on the M7 motorway section towards Balaton near Füle, right on the route of motorists heading to the lake. Between the 82nd and 83rd kilometers, on the Nagykanizsa side, about two hundred square meters of undergrowth burned, which could have easily caused serious disruption to traffic heading to Balaton during the peak summer season.

The professional firefighters from Balatonfűzfő, together with the municipal unit from Polgárdi, responded to the scene. They quickly extinguished the fire with two water jets before it could spread to the nearby forest strip or the protective zone along the motorway. The effectiveness of the intervention is particularly important on the northern shore of Balaton, where every minute counts due to increasing traffic density.

Although the fire caused no personal injuries and did not spread to a larger area, it serves as a reminder that dry undergrowth poses a serious risk around the lake during the summer months. Firefighters from Balatonfűzfő and surrounding settlements regularly receive similar reports, as the heavy traffic on the M7 combined with heat and drought can lead to rapidly spreading fires.
