Two Ends, One Storm: Balaton Also Targeted ⚡️
The storm, which arrived in Western Hungary in the afternoon, also made its presence felt in areas near the southern shore of Lake Balaton. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds caused damage in the Nagykanizsa region and on surrounding roads, directly affecting traffic heading to the lake and vacationers.
Firefighters were primarily called to damaged buildings and trees fallen onto the roads. Fallen vegetation obstructed traffic in several places along the main road 7, as well as roads 84, 85, and 86. These routes are crucial for Balaton tourism, as they connect the settlements on the southern shore with the western part of the country.
The stormy weather prompted both locals and vacationers to exercise caution. Sudden strong gusts of wind around the lakeside beaches can make swimming difficult, while slower progress should be expected on public roads. Disaster management teams are continuously working to clear the damages to restore order on the routes leading to Balaton as soon as possible.
In the affected area, the storm primarily caused material damage; no reports of personal injuries have been received so far. However, it is important for residents of the settlements around Lake Balaton to monitor weather developments, especially when planning weekend programs. ⛈️
