Flaming landscape near Fonyód: fire threatens Lake Balaton 🔥

Near Fonyód, vegetation caught fire over several hectares, posing a serious challenge for residents and holidaymakers on this section of the southern shore of Lake Balaton. The smoke and firefighting operations directly affect the daily life of the lakeside settlements, especially during the summer season.

Under the direction of the Somogy County Disaster Management Service, professional firefighters from Marcali, Keszthely, and Siófok, as well as volunteer firefighters from Balatonboglár and Fonyód, responded to the scene. They are working with multiple water jets to control the flames to prevent the fire from spreading to areas near Lake Balaton.

Due to the dense smoke caused by the fire, traffic on the M7 motorway was temporarily slowed, and road 6701 was closed. This could cause significant disruption for drivers heading to Lake Balaton, who often approach Fonyód and the surrounding beaches via this route.
