Lángos 1950 or 2800 Ft? Siófok is making Lake Balaton more expensive 😲
On the southern shore of Lake Balaton, for example at the free beach in Balatonmáriafürdő, despite the heatwave, there is really life only on weekends so far. On weekdays, the number of beachgoers remains low, which directly affects local caterers and the traffic of surrounding settlements, such as Balatonboglár.
Locals say that the strong forint and high prices also contribute to the restrained attendance. For example, a cheese-sour cream lángos costs 1950 forints here, while in Siófok they already charge 2800 forints for it. „I understand this lángos issue too, because a kilo of flour costs 184 forints in the store... But if someone doesn't have money for this, they shouldn't go to a catering establishment” – said a local entrepreneur, emphasizing the value of fresh ingredients and a cultured environment 🌊.
Due to the shortening season and weekend peaks, Balaton families and holidaymakers are also planning their programs more cautiously. Beach service providers are counting on lost revenue, while during the heat, continuous guest traffic would be particularly important for the lakeside settlements.
Overall, tourism around Lake Balaton is currently limited to weekends, which in the long term also tests the local economy and the sustainability of services.
