Water use already restricted in a Balaton village đź’§
In LengyeltĂłti near Lake Balaton, a second-degree water restriction has been introduced for an indefinite period, which may directly affect holiday homes in the surrounding Balaton settlements and the region's tourism as well. Due to the sudden increase in water consumption, the local municipality has ordered strict measures, including a ban on filling pools.
In his Saturday post, Mayor Nagy MátĂ© drew attention to the fact that the employees of DunántĂşli Regionális VĂzmű Zrt. are looking for the cause of the problem – presumably a hidden network pipe burst is behind it. The restriction also affected the organizers of the Manas Fesztivál taking place over the weekend, who were only granted permission for the most necessary water use.
For Balaton-side holiday homes and locals, this news is a warning sign: in the heat, water demand is increasing, and if similar problems arise in other settlements, it could seriously affect the beach season and summer programs. During the restriction, it is forbidden to fill pools, as well as other non-essential water uses.
Similar strict measures have not yet been introduced in the settlements around Lake Balaton, but the LengyeltĂłti case shows well how sensitive the regional water network is to sudden loads. đź’§ Therefore, it is advisable for locals and guests to save water to avoid further restrictions in the area around the lake.
