Balatonszemes' New Sensation: Freddie Mercury Statue on the Shore 🎸
Balatonszemes, one of the popular resorts on the southern shore, will be enriched with a globally rare statue on July 25: a bronze statue of Freddie Mercury will be placed in the settlement. The news is particularly exciting for the Balaton community because Queen fans have been organizing their summer meeting here for decades, which has now grown into a real festival.
The Queen camp has been operating on the shores of Balaton for 32 years, and every summer attracts several hundred Hungarian and foreign fans to the settlement. The organizers of the event, led by Arnold Gyarmati, president of the Queen Fan Club Association, decided to commemorate the musical tradition with a permanent work of art as well. Currently, there are only two public Freddie Mercury statues in the world, so the Balatonszemes creation is a real curiosity.
Reception among locals was mixed, yet a civil survey shows that the majority support the idea. The municipality is not creating the statue, but has actively supported the initiative, as the new attraction can further strengthen the cultural appeal of the southern shore. The late July unveiling is expected to once again fill the settlement with fans, who can participate in the traditional Queen programs alongside the statue 🎸.
For Balaton-side vacationers and locals alike, this statue is not just a work of art, but also a symbol of community and passion for music. Anyone visiting Balatonszemes at the end of July can not only relax by the lake but also become part of a special musical heritage.
