Balaton Swim Delayed Due to Storm – When Will It Be? ⚡

BalatonLife
The postponement of the Balaton swim unexpectedly affects the settlements around the lake and holidaymakers who have been preparing for the July 18–19 weekend for weeks. Based on the joint decision of the HungaroMet observatory in Siófok and the Balaton Water Police, this year’s 44th crossing is postponed to Saturday, July 25, as strong winds and waves this weekend would compromise participant safety. The cold front arriving Friday night will bring lively northwesterly winds on Saturday, generating high waves along the entire length of the lake. On Sunday, southwesterly winds will create axial waves, followed in the evening by thunderstorms and stormy gusts. These conditions would pose risks not only for competitors but also for visitors to the lakeside beaches. The postponement also impacts tourism in the Balaton coastal settlements. Around Siófok, Balatonfüred and Keszthely, many guests have already booked accommodation and programs for the weekend, so organizers are now working with locals and hospitality venues to reschedule services linked to the event. The water police emphasize that safety cannot be overridden – not even for such an iconic Balaton program. Next week’s date will hopefully be more favorable, allowing participants and shore supporters to finally enjoy the traditional crossing 🌊.
