12-year-old on scooter hits elderly woman in Balatonboglár at night 😱
In Balatonboglár, a serious accident occurred on one of the southern shore’s most popular promenades near the beach on Saturday evening after 10 PM. A 12-year-old boy without a helmet was riding at high speed on an iSinwheel D1 electric scooter on the Platán strand promenade when he hit an elderly woman walking in front of him.
The woman suffered serious injuries, while the underage scooter rider was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The Somogy County Police released details of the incident on Monday, emphasizing that an electric scooter is not dangerous in itself – it is the manner of use and irresponsibility that make it so.
The authorities are now particularly warning Balaton holidaymakers and locals: parents should not allow underage children to use high-performance vehicles if they are not familiar with the basic rules of the Highway Code. The area around Platán strand is crowded with pedestrians, families and older visitors during the peak season, so such an accident can easily undermine the image of lakeside towns as safe resorts.
The police also remind everyone that it is strictly forbidden to consume alcohol while riding an electric scooter. The incident once again highlights that traffic discipline on the Balaton promenades is everyone’s shared responsibility – especially during the summer months when thousands seek peaceful rest by the lake ⚠️🏖️.
