Dogs' Balaton Closes in Keszthely – What Will Happen to Them? 🐶
In Keszthely, one of the most popular northern shore settlements on Lake Balaton, the dog beach will close at the end of September, directly affecting dog owners vacationing around the lake. The city administration is terminating the contract with the operator, so the lakeside area will receive a new function for the next season.
The decision follows lengthy debates that also surfaced at the council meeting. On the proposal of Mayor Gergely Tóth, the assembly voted to terminate the contract, while also deciding to suspend membership in the Balaton Association. This latter step stems from the disproportionate burdens on the largest lakeside towns and their exclusion from the presidency.
The closure of the dog beach particularly affects those vacationing on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. Until now, this area provided a safe, designated spot for guests arriving with their four-legged companions, allowing them to enjoy lakeside walks and swimming together. After the introduction of the new function, similar opportunities will need to be sought in the offerings of surrounding settlements.
The new advocacy organization formed under the name B4 Alliance could, according to the city leadership, represent a more effective alternative for the settlements around Lake Balaton. However, from the perspective of dog-friendly tourism, the transformation of the lakeside areas may also influence the overall appeal of Lake Balaton to guests with pets in the long term 🐕🌊.
