After two postponements, finally on Saturday the Balaton swim? 🏊
The legendary Balaton swim has finally been given the green light: after multiple postponements, on Saturday, August 1, participants can finally jump into the water. The organizers postponed the race due to the cold water and previous unfavorable weather, but now the lake's water has reached 24–25 degrees, and further warming is expected in the coming sunny, hot period.
For the settlements along the Balaton shore, this news is a true summer highlight. Around Révfülöp, Balatonboglár and the surrounding beaches, traffic has already increased days earlier, and the restaurateurs and accommodation providers can breathe a sigh of relief. Locals and vacationers alike are excitedly preparing: many cheer from the shore, others follow the field on the water. The moderate easterly wind in the morning will almost completely calm down by afternoon, with only a few lively gusts possibly disturbing the swimmers – this creates ideal conditions for safe completion.
The organizers particularly warn about sun protection: swimming cap and strong sunscreen use is mandatory for all participants. In terms of tourism around the lake, the event can give a serious boost to the season, as with the several thousand athletes and their companions, the Balaton area catering venues and beaches will also fill with life. 🏊♂️☀️
For locals, the swim is always more than a competition: the Balaton community celebration, which connects the two shores and shows again why we love this lake so much.
