Blue Ribbon: 458 Sailboats Cleave the Waters of Lake Balaton

One of the most outstanding sporting events in the Balaton region is the Blue Ribbon, the most prestigious competition in Hungarian sailing. Participants starting from Balatonfüred set out on the waves of the lake, where the sparkling water surface and the changing wind conditions together test the crews' knowledge and strategy.

This year 458 sailboats started the race. The continuous changes in wind direction and strength rearranged the front of the field several times, so the battle remained exciting until the final meters. For spectators gathering along the shore this spectacle is not only a sporting event but also a celebration of the natural beauty of Lake Balaton.
