Keszthely Intensive Care Unit Shut Down: No Patient Admissions Due to Air Conditioning Failure ❄️

BalatonLife
The intensive care unit at Keszthely Hospital has once again experienced an air conditioning failure, so no new patients will be admitted over the weekend. This issue particularly affects the settlements in the western basin of Lake Balaton, where many locals and visitors may require prompt care during the summer season. Due to the air conditioning malfunction, the inpatients have been temporarily relocated to another air-conditioned room. According to Director General Sahin-Tóth Gábor, the quick repair did not succeed on Friday, so new admissions will be suspended for the weekend. However, the care of existing patients continues uninterrupted, and the experienced doctors and nurses are performing well even in this emergency situation. From a Balaton perspective this situation may cause serious headaches. Residents of Keszthely and surrounding settlements – such as Hévíz or Gyenesdiás – as well as holidaymakers by the lake often rely on the local intensive care unit in urgent cases. If someone here requires immediate treatment, ambulances will now take them straight to Zalaegerszeg, which means extra time and risk. This type of problem at the hospital is unfortunately recurring. A different kind of fault has occurred this time compared to before, and repairs are already underway. During the summer months, when the population of the Balaton shoreline settlements surges, it is especially important for the healthcare infrastructure to function reliably. The current situation highlights how vulnerable the system is in this key region.
