Scandal in Balatongyörök: Cyclist Beats Up 17-Year-Old Driver 🚲

BalatonLife

In Balatongyörök, one of the popular resorts on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, a traffic dispute escalated into violence on the afternoon of July 26. The incident on Petőfi Sándor Street highlights the growing tension between cyclists and motorists in lakeside settlements during the summer season, which also affects the sense of security of locals and holidaymakers.

A 53-year-old man was cycling towards the waterfront with his partner when a passenger car caught up with them. The woman pulled aside, but the man stayed in the middle of the road. The driver honked as a warning and then passed them. The cyclist angrily followed the vehicle that stopped a few meters away and got into a heated argument with the driver. First, he tried to stop the car through the window, then took out the ignition key and threw it at a tree. He then punched the 17-year-old driver several times, who suffered serious injuries.

The attacker then left the scene, but the police from Keszthely identified and arrested him in a local holiday home based on camera footage. He was questioned for serious bodily harm, but did not provide an explanation for his act. 🌊

Such incidents are particularly worrying in the Balaton coastal settlements during the tourist season, when many cyclists and motorists are traveling on the narrow roads. Both locals and guests desire a safe environment, so the police are paying increased attention to preventing similar conflicts in the area around the lake.
