The most beautiful sunset of the millennium was born on Lake Balaton 🌅
Those standing on the shores of Lake Balaton witnessed an extraordinary sight on Wednesday evening, when the setting sun coincided with a partial solar eclipse. Above the Hungarian sea, the horizon was dressed in special hues, while the eclipsed solar disk slowly disappeared behind the horizon.
The phenomenon reached 70–75% coverage in Hungary, so the process was similarly spectacular on both shores of Lake Balaton – from Siófok to Keszthely. Locals and lakeside holidaymakers alike stopped to capture the moment: the water surface turned orange and crimson, while the sun shrank into an ever smaller crescent.
This sunset was truly unique in the period of the millennium so far, as the coincidence of the eclipse and sunset rarely occurs. In the lakeside settlements, many spontaneously gathered near the piers and free beaches to admire the celestial event together.
For residents and guests of the settlements around Lake Balaton, this moment was not only a weather-related rarity but also a kind of communal experience. Numerous beautiful shots arrived from various points of the lake, showing how varied the hues the eclipsed sun gave to the water mirror 🌅🌒. Such events always remind us how close the wonder of nature is to us at Lake Balaton.
