Balaton Camp Scandal: Home Leader Stroked the Little Girls ⚠️
Summer camps along the shores of Balaton promise safe recreation for children, yet a late-July program run by a Budapest child-protection institution unexpectedly cast a dark shadow over children’s programs around the lake. After the camp, four girls – three minors and one in aftercare – reported that the 53-year-old home leader had behaved differently toward them than before.
According to the details, one evening the man took the four children outside the camp area while the other educators were putting the younger ones to bed. During the outing he became intoxicated and tried to get closer to the girls: he stroked and hugged them, groped their bottoms, and even sat the children on his lap. Upon returning from Balaton on Sunday, the young people immediately began speaking about the incident.
The institution acted immediately: it filed a police report on suspicion of sexual abuse, notified the child-protection guardians and the children’s rights representative, and terminated the man’s public-service employment with extraordinary dismissal. The Social and Child-Protection Directorate-General confirmed that all necessary steps had been taken.
The case highlights how important strict supervision is in lakeside camps where thousands of children holiday every year. For locals and holidaymakers alike it is worrying that such an incident may also affect Balaton’s reputation – the family-friendly resort image depends largely on the safety of children’s programs. 🌊
The police investigation is ongoing.
