Heat alert at Lake Balaton – how long will the scorching heat last? ☀️

The heat alert has also come into effect in the Lake Balaton region, which may affect the entire weekend and the following days. Based on HungaroMet data and the recommendations of the National Public Health Center, the nationwide warning also covers lakeside settlements, including Balatonmáriafürdő, where residents and holidaymakers alike are urged to exercise increased caution.

According to meteorological forecasts, daytime maximum temperatures may remain consistently above 30 degrees Celsius, while nighttime cooling will also be limited. Although the lake water has a cooling effect, humidity and solar radiation further increase the heat load in the coastal areas. Local municipalities therefore recommend that beachgoers avoid direct sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Proper fluid intake is particularly important in the Lake Balaton settlements and staying in cool places. Drinking fountains and shaded rest areas at the beaches can help, but experts advise that families with young children and the elderly should not stay in the sun for extended periods. ☀️
