Shots Fired at Car in Tihany: Police Officers Injured During Chase

A serious incident took place on Saturday evening in Tihany, located on the shores of Lake Balaton, which shook both the residents of the region and the holidaymakers. During a car chase, the driver rammed several police cars, and finally, on the Tihany road section, the authorities opened fire on the vehicle to stop the fleeing suspect.

Four police officers were injured at the scene, two with minor injuries and two with more serious injuries, and they were taken to hospital. The driver was eventually apprehended and also required medical attention. The operation took place in one of the most popular settlements on the Balaton Uplands, where many people are staying by the lake in the middle of the summer season.

It is particularly worrying for local residents and tourists that such a violent chase occurred in Tihany, where many seek peace due to the quiet, picturesque environment. However, the police's swift intervention prevented the suspect from further endangering the roads in the area or the traffic in the Balaton-side settlements.

Following the events, the Veszprém County Police will continue the investigation in the region with reinforced presence to prevent similar incidents from occurring around Lake Balaton.
