Storm raging at Balaton: what to expect? 🌬️

BalatonLife

The second-degree storm warning issued in the afternoon also requires serious attention in the Balaton region, affecting several counties in Transdanubia. HungaroMet’s orange warning draws attention to severe thunderstorms, directly impacting the lake’s southern shore as well, where particularly many reports have come in from Somogy county.

In the evening hours, reports to the disaster management operations control mainly concerned fallen trees and broken branches. These issues may affect not only local residents but also tourists arriving at Balaton, since the affected roads lie near important access points to the lake.

On the section of main road 67 between Bőszénfa and Mozsgó fallen trees are causing disruptions, which may also slow traffic heading from the southern shore of Balaton toward Kaposvár or inland settlements. Due to the stormy winds, caution is advised on lakeside promenades and free beaches, especially in the late afternoon and evening hours.

Residents and holidaymakers around Balaton are asked not to park under trees and, if possible, to avoid unnecessary travel during the warning period. Local authorities are continuously monitoring the situation to restore order in the lakeside settlements as soon as possible. 🌩️
