Balaton Rampage Driver: Cocaine and THC in His System 🚨

On the shores of Lake Balaton on August 20, during the holiday weekend, a serious traffic hazard occurred when the driver of an Austrian-plated car, under the influence of drugs, fled from the police from Aszófő to Balatonfüred. On the section of main road 71 near Tihany, the vehicle was driving erratically, which immediately caught the attention of the patrol officers.

After being stopped by a motorcycle police officer, the middle-aged man sped away, driving onto the cycle path, running a red light at the railway crossing and colliding with several police cars. Pedestrian officers also had to jump out of the way, but one was hit by the vehicle. The police finally stopped the car by shooting at the wheels, which ended when it crashed into a power pole in Balatonfüred.

THC and cocaine were detected in the driver’s system. The prosecutor’s office requested pre-trial detention for violence against an official, endangering road traffic, criminal damage, driving under the influence and drug possession, which the court ordered due to the risk of flight and reoffending.

The incident highlights that increased attention must be paid to road safety on the roads around Lake Balaton even during the holiday period. It is reassuring for local residents and tourists that the police acted quickly and effectively against the dangerous driver. 🚔
