Why are Bettina and Foki Walking Around Lake Balaton? 🐴

BalatonLife

Along the shores of Lake Balaton there are always inspiring stories, but the current one deserves special attention: a 17-year-old girl and her loyal dwarf donkey are walking around the lake to draw attention to animal protection. Koszonits Bettina and her two-and-a-half-year-old companion, Foki, are walking around Lake Balaton for a full month, while giving presentations to groups of children about responsible animal keeping.

On the second day of the adventure we met them in Balatonfüred. Bettina says “the donkey is not stubborn, just wisely smart”, and she wants to pass this wisdom on to young people as well. The dwarf donkey can handle walking several kilometres a day if properly cared for and rested. The inspiration came from Christopher McDougall’s book, which tells the story of a neglected donkey and how its life changed with a loving family.

In the Lake Balaton region this message is especially important, as many people here choose to keep animals, whether pets or livestock. Together with her father, Bettina emphasises that parents can help children from an early age to think responsibly about animals. The joint walk is not only a physical challenge but also a living example of empathy and perseverance.

🐴 Such initiatives help ensure that the Lake Balaton area becomes known not only for its natural beauty but also for its conscious community. Foki and Bettina’s journey thus becomes an instructive experience for the region as well.
