Through the Drone's Lens: Lake Balaton's Drought-Stricken Face
Through drone footage, the summer heat this year has become visible to residents and regular visitors of the Lake Balaton area. The aerial images clearly show how the lake's water level has dropped after the prolonged hot period, especially in the shallower shoreline sections.
The recordings clearly outline that instead of the usual water surface, larger dry areas are visible along the shore. In the areas around Lake Balaton settlements such as Keszthely, Siófok or Balatonfüred, locals have been experiencing the change for weeks: more of the bed is visible under the piers, and the reed beds are dotted with dried patches.
This low water level directly affects Balaton tourism and local communities. Some beaches have become narrower, and boating and fishing require more careful planning. The lake's wildlife also reacts sensitively to such periods, especially in the shallow bays.
The drone images also show that Lake Balaton still offers a stunning sight ☀️🌊 – just from a different perspective now. Local experts are continuously monitoring the water level, and the weather in the coming weeks will be decisive in how the lake's condition develops during the autumn.
