Siófok: Healthy trees cut down on the Balaton shore? 🌳

Siófok, one of the most popular resort towns on the Balaton shore, has once again proven that protecting local green areas is a top priority for the municipal leadership. Serious concerns have arisen about tree felling in connection with the sidewalk renovation on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street.

Lengyel Tamás, mayor, immediately halted the works after learning that around ten linden and maple trees on the northern side of the street had already been cut down. Residents say many trees were completely healthy and no one consulted them about the intervention. The municipal maintenance company carrying out the renovation deemed the tree removal necessary due to E.ON cables, as the tree crowns had grown into the power lines.

The mayor emphasized that while some trees were indeed dangerous due to advanced decay, the vast majority proved to be healthy specimens. “The sight was truly appalling,” said Lengyel Tamás, who ordered an immediate investigation under his own authority.

Based on the expert assessment by the city’s head gardener, only trees posing a safety risk may be felled, while healthy specimens remain 🌳. This decision reflects Siófok’s commitment to preserving the Balaton shoreline townscape, where the green environment is a fundamental part of the resort’s appeal.
