Szent Mihály's Day Comes to Life in Vonyarcvashegy – Balaton Festival Awaits! 🍂

BalatonLife

One of the most beautiful traditions of the Balaton Uplands comes to life every autumn in Vonyarcvashegy, where Szent Mihály Hill and the chapel above it once again become a meeting place for the community. Szent Mihály Day on 27 September 2026 offers both spiritual deepening and a cultural experience for locals and visitors arriving at Balaton.

The program series begins at 16:30 with a commemoration and wreath-laying in memory of the deceased members of the Szent Mihály Hill Protective and Guest-Welcoming Association. This is followed at 17:00 by a farewell mass in the Szent Mihály Chapel, where locals and guests together remember the patron saint of the hill and the lake region.

The highlight of the evening at 18:00 is Dvořák’s “American” String Quartet, performed as part of the West Balaton Chapel Concerts. The Balaton String Quartet – Zsuzsanna Pekár and Barbara Gauzer on violin, Árpád Jakobovics on viola, and Franciska Arany Kovácsné on cello – will perform the work within the chapel walls 🎻. The event preserves the musical traditions of the Balaton-side settlements while offering an unforgettable experience for those exploring around the lake.

Thus, Szent Mihály Day in Vonyarcvashegy is not merely a date on the calendar, but a beautiful testament to the cultural unity of the local community and the Balaton region.
