🚨 Report Filed in Fonyód: What's Happening Around the Beloiannisz?
The fate of developments along the Balaton shore often determines the region's tourist appeal and the daily lives of local communities. However, serious questions have now arisen regarding two investments linked to the region, prompting the Ministry of Economic and Energy Affairs to file a report against unknown perpetrators on suspicion of budget fraud and breach of trust.
In the fall of 2021, one billion forints in support was awarded to a foundation for the renovation of the Beloiannisz ship, with the aim of making the passenger ship built in 1952 a venue for educational programs on the lake. The full amount was paid as an advance in May 2022, but the works have not been completed since. There is no trace in the documents that the undertaken trainings were carried out, the locations were modified several times, but the ship remains on dry land.
Similar issues have arisen with the energy modernization of the Sport Hotel in Fonyód. The Kis-Balatoni Berek Hunting Association received 1.3 billion forints in support, later transforming into the PELSO Civil Sports Association. Although one billion forints have already been paid, the project only reached 25% completion by the 2019 deadline. The contractor stopped, no penalties were imposed, and the contractor's fee was even increased – while the local community was waiting for a modern, sustainable accommodation.
🌊 These delays not only affect the fate of public funds but also directly harm the image of Balaton and the possibilities for sustainable tourism. The region's residents rightly expect that such investments will finally serve the community's benefit, rather than remaining protracted cases.
