Lights were lit in Balatongyörök for the Arad martyrs 🕯️

Balatongyörök, located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, traditionally preserves national memory, and this time too is preparing in a worthy manner to honor the Arad martyrs. 2026. október 6-án the settlement is organizing a ceremonial commemoration, which at the same time pays tribute to the heroes of the war of independence and strengthens the cohesion of the local community.

In the program, historian W. Zsurka Ágnes gives a lecture, which also touches on the 1848–49 connections of the Balaton region. The Györöki Choir participates in the event, whose members evoke the historical moments with heartfelt songs. The venue of the commemoration creates a special atmosphere with the proximity of Lake Balaton: the view of the lake and the surrounding hills evoke the past and the peace of the present at the same time.

Such occasions in Balatongyörök always mean more than mere commemoration. They connect the locals, provide opportunities for younger generations to share experiences, and remind us that respect for Hungarian history lives vividly on the shores of Lake Balaton as well. 🌊🇭🇺
