Keszthely Shock: Deer Shot at the Museum in Front of Guests 🦌
One of the most popular tourist centers on the shores of Lake Balaton, Keszthely, once again attracted many visitors this year due to the Festetics Castle and the associated Hunting Museum. The castle park and surrounding green areas regularly host nature-oriented programs, but in recent days an unexpected and alarming incident has shaken both locals and guests alike.
Museum visitors witnessed a hunter shooting a stag on the estate right in front of them. Several people recorded the scene, and the footage quickly spread on social media. The Zala County Police classified the incident as a dangerous stunt and have already questioned a hunter as a suspect.
Experts believe the events are linked to the autumn rutting season of deer, when the animals’ behavior becomes unpredictable and they more frequently venture into human environments. Responsible wildlife management and visitor safety are especially important in the forests and parks around Lake Balaton at this time.
Locals and tourism workers now fear that the incident could cast a shadow over the image of Keszthely and Lake Balaton. The castle park has until now been considered a family-friendly and peaceful venue, but many are now questioning what guarantees exist for safe visits in the future.
