What Lies Within the Walls of the Szent Imre Church by Lake Balaton?
The continuously developing community of Balatonalmádi, located on the shores of Lake Balaton, already felt in the 19th century that it needed a worthy sacral center. Due to the growing population, the idea of building a church first arose at that time, which has since become one of the most defining architectural and spiritual symbols of the city and the surrounding Balaton settlements.
The Szent Imre Church was completed by November 1930 and was consecrated in honor of Saint Emeric of the Árpád dynasty. A few years later, in 1934, the local parish was established, which has since actively served the faithful community of Balatonalmádi and the surrounding settlements. The church stands in the center of the town, thus functioning not only as a religious site but also as a community meeting place for both lakeside vacationers and locals.
1958 saw the construction of a faithful replica of the Holy Right Chapel from Buda Castle next to the church in all its splendor. This unique structure has since attracted pilgrims and visitors to Lake Balaton. Since August 19, 2001, a relic of the Holy Right has also been kept here, further elevating the spiritual significance of the site in the region.
The church and the adjacent chapel remain a vibrant part of Balaton summer life today: masses, concerts, and cultural programs are regularly held here, strengthening the lakeside community. ⛪
