Balaton: What Will the Next Rain Bring? 🌧️

The next larger rain zone is also arriving in the Balaton region, bringing significant weather changes mid-week. Due to the peripheral cyclone approaching from the west-southwest, scattered rain and showers are expected around the lake by Wednesday afternoon, with a possible thunderstorm in the southwest.

Thursday will see the cyclone center move over the area, leading to widespread and prolonged rainfall across the entire Balaton region. Models indicate 5–15 mm of precipitation on average until Friday morning, which could beneficially affect local vegetation and the lake’s water level.

Temperatures will also drop: Wednesday may still exceed 20°C in many places, but Thursday’s highs will range between 13–22°C. Friday brings further cooling with peaks of 12–17°C. Behind the cyclone’s cold front, northwesterly winds will pick up across Transdanubia, including the Balaton shore, serving as a warning for water sports enthusiasts.

🌧️ It’s therefore advisable to pack an umbrella or waterproof jacket for lakeside promenades and beaches, especially for longer excursions in the area. The second half of the week will favor indoor activities in the Balaton region.
