Civil organizations in Balatonfüred launch SOS Balaton campaign for shore protection

Balatonfüred civil organizations have launched a campaign called SOS Balaton to protect the lake's shore sections and are requesting urgent intervention from the government.

According to the Balaton Limnological Research Institute, 55 percent of the entire shoreline of Lake Balaton has already been artificially modified, and only about 20 kilometers of relatively untouched shore sections remain.

The civilians advocate for the suspension of large investments threatening the natural shore sections, the state purchase of threatened privately owned areas, and the creation of a Balaton protection fund of 15–30 billion forints for the rehabilitation of damaged reed beds and shore habitats.
