Memorial ceremony held in Siófok on the 70th anniversary of the 1956 revolution at Baross Secondary School
On October 23, Siófok held a memorial ceremony on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the 1956 revolution. Following the festive program at Baross Secondary School, participants laid wreaths and candles at the Well of Tears memorial, which was inaugurated 20 years ago.
The speaker at the ceremony was Deputy Mayor Dr. Miklós Kovács. In his speech, he emphasized that during the revolution in Siófok, local patriots took up arms and recruited, while maintaining order and ensuring the operation of the post office, the dairy plant, the council, and the schools.
According to Miklós Kovács, 1956 was not a final defeat, because without its moral foundation, there would not have been the 1989 regime change either. From a distance of seven decades, preserving freedom and sovereignty requires the community's unity, common sense, and standing up for democratic values.
