Mysterious Stonehenge on a Balaton basalt cone! 🗿

Among the witness hills of the Balaton Uplands, Haláp occupies a special place: although it lies a bit farther from the lake than Badacsony or Csobánc, the panorama opening from its summit still impressively reveals the sparkling water of Balaton and the mountains rising around it.

The path leading to the basalt cone near Zalahaláp begins on the southern side, where from the parking lot a short walk reaches the quarry yard. Walking along the edge of the stripped crater, the hexagonal basalt columns immediately stand out, as if forming a giant stone organ in the characteristic landscape of the Balaton Uplands.

On the terrace of the higher cone stand peculiar stone formations that resemble tribal statues and create an almost Stonehenge-like atmosphere against the Balaton backdrop. These forms remained as traces of mining and now show the peculiar encounter of nature and human intervention.
