Exhibition Opens on Tagore's Visit to Balatonfüred at the Vaszary Gallery
An exhibition opens at the Vaszary Gallery in Balatonfüred, commemorating the ten-day visit of the Nobel Prize-winning Bengali poet Tagore a hundred years ago.
The poet stayed in the town between November 1 and 10, 1926, where he received treatment at the Erzsébet Sanatorium, today's Heart Hospital. In memory of his recovery, he planted a tree on the lakeside promenade, which has since borne his name.
Tagore won the Nobel Prize in 1913 for his poetry cycle Gítándzsali. His 1926 visit to Hungary was one of the most influential events in the history of Hungarian-Indian cultural relations.
