Gale knocks down water tower in Somogy! 🌪️
🌪️ A fierce gale raging across Somogy settlements on Lake Balaton's southern shore knocked down an old water tower – an immediate warning to lakeside residents and holidaymakers about approaching stormy weather. The incident near Balatonboglár highlights how spring winds can threaten regional infrastructure, directly affecting coastal communities.
The toppled, slightly rusted water tower crashed loudly and tore up the asphalt with its broken base, causing significant road damage. Fortunately no one was injured, but surrounding roads were closed immediately, complicating traffic on Balaton's southern side. Somogy disaster management reacted quickly and is stabilising the site with machinery.
This case is especially worrying in the Balaton region: gales often intensify over the lake, endangering harbours, beaches and boat traffic. Locals face possible water supply disruption, while holidaymakers' early-season walks and water sports may become risky. Lakeside municipalities have already called for extra caution and the storm warning system is fully operational. Avoid dry trees and loose structures on coastal promenades!
