Storm rages at the Balaton: devastating damage! 🌪️
Heavy storms hit Lake Balaton's southern and western shores, requiring numerous fire service interventions in Somogy and Zala counties. 🌪️ Disaster management said units were dispatched to more than two hundred thirty alerts from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning, mainly to remove fallen trees and repair wind-damaged buildings.
In Somogy on the southern side – think towns from Balatonlelle to Siófok – strong winds toppled trees blocking roads and complicating local traffic. Tailbacks formed on Balaton sections of route 7, a serious nuisance for holidaymakers and locals. In Zala on the western shore, around Keszthely and Hévíz, similar problems: roof structures loosened, branches fell on pavements, endangering walking tourists.
Storm impact on the Balaton is felt: strong winds whipped up lake water, raising waves and warning swimmers on beaches. ⚠️ Mid tourist season this may delay programmes, spoil holidaymakers' experience and impose extra costs on municipalities for rapid repairs. Firefighters' work is key to safety, but residents are asked to stay indoors and avoid fallen trees.
Winds may ease in coming hours, but the case remains a warning for lakeside residents and visitors: nature's force reminds us to be prepared. Follow local authorities for fresh information!
