Balaton's fate: 72% of Hungarians would protect the shore through expropriation 🌊

BalatonLife

For residents of the Balaton shore settlements and communities living around the lake, it is particularly important news that the majority of Hungarians clearly stand for nature conservation against investments. According to the latest survey by 21 Kutatóközpont, 77 percent of respondents believe that in Balaton developments, natural values must primarily be protected, not economic interests.

Locals have long experienced that the shoreline areas have been intensively built up in recent years. 65 percent of survey participants share this view and are concerned that the lake's natural balance may be endangered. This proportion is particularly high among Fidesz voters: 83 percent consider the current level of development excessive.

The most interesting result of the research is that 72 percent of Hungarians would support the state protecting sensitive Balaton shoreline areas even through expropriation. This figure shows that preserving the Balaton ecosystem enjoys broad social support, including among a significant portion of government party voters.

From the perspective of local tourism and quality of life around the lake, it is crucial to introduce a complete construction ban on the most important shoreline sections. According to the survey, two-thirds of Fidesz voters also agree with this measure, indicating that protecting Balaton's natural values is not a party-political issue but a common interest 🌊🌿.
