App privacy policy
Updated 29 September 2026.
Who is responsible
The Balaton Life app is operated by BalatonLife, the same publisher as balaton.life. This notice covers the iOS and Android app.
The website has its own notice: balaton.life/en/privacy-policy.
Questions and deletion requests: balatonlife@balatonlife.hu. You can also use the form on the imprint page.
You can use the app without an account
News, events, weather, storm warnings and transport are available without signing in. An account is created only if you register.
Account
If you register, we process your email address and password so you can sign in. Sign-in is provided by Supabase. We do not store the password in a form we can read. The account has an identifier, and a session stays on your phone so you remain signed in. Password-reset email is also sent by Supabase.
An account is not required to use the app. To delete it, email balatonlife@balatonlife.hu. We will check that the account is yours before we delete it.
Supabase’s own notice: supabase.com/privacy.
Location
The app may ask for your location while you are using it, so it can show nearby alerts and content around Lake Balaton. Your precise location stays on the device. We do not send it to our servers and we do not store it there.
Favourite towns and the alert distance are also stored only on the phone. You can refuse location access, or turn it off later in system settings. The app still works without it.
What stays on the phone
Language, light or dark appearance, sound, vibration, accessibility, the notification switch, favourite towns and the alert distance stay on the device. We do not upload them. Deleting the app deletes them.
The notification switch is stored on the device. We do not currently send a device identifier to our servers to deliver push messages.
Loading content
News, events, weather and transport are loaded from balaton.life. To answer the request, the server may briefly process the IP address, the time of the request and the address that was requested. This is needed to run the service and to limit abuse. We do not build an advertising profile from it, and we do not sell it.
Pages opened inside the app
Some screens, including the quizzes, open pages from balaton.life. Those pages follow the website privacy notice, including cookies needed to run the site and Google Analytics measurement.
Newsletter
The newsletter is a separate signup on hirlevel.balatonlife.hu. The email address is handled by Beehiiv, not by the app account. Signup is optional.
Beehiiv’s notice: beehiiv.com/privacy.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not track you across other companies’ apps and websites for advertising.
- We do not ask for access to your contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
- We do not receive your Apple ID. Apple handles the download: apple.com/legal/privacy.
How long we keep data
- Account data for as long as the account exists, or until you ask us to delete it.
- Server logs for as long as they are needed to run and protect the service, then we delete or anonymise them.
- Settings stored on the phone until you change them or delete the app.
Legal bases
- Account data is used to provide the sign-in you asked for.
- Location and the newsletter rely on your consent. You can withdraw that consent at any time.
- Server logs are used to keep the service operating securely.
Your rights
You can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, and you can object to processing. Where the law provides it, you can also ask for a copy of your data.
You can complain to the Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information: naih.hu.
Email balatonlife@balatonlife.hu. To delete an account we may ask for the account email address so we delete the right one.
Children
The app is not directed at children. We do not knowingly keep an account for a child under 16. If you believe a child has registered, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this notice changes, we will update this page and the date above.
