On the southern shore of Lake Balaton, local beach offerings received serious recognition again this year, as the best beach foods of the year were announced in Tihany. The trout preserve from Lokal at the Lake in Fonyódliget took the main prize in the bistro category, while two other Balaton locations also stood out from the field.
The winning dish adapts a Lisbon canned concept to the lakeside: baked trout from Panarinit near Keszthely is packed in a jar with spicy mayonnaise, dill and pickled vegetables, then sealed with smoke. When opened in front of the guest, the smoke aroma immediately fills the beach terrace, making the dish offered in the picnic package a real experience for holidaymakers.
In the buffet category at Siófok-Szabadifürdő, Julcsi Kalácsoda’s crackling kürtős won: the salty dough is filled with crackling, rolled in grated cheese, then grilled over charcoal and served with garlic sour cream. In Szántód, Millacsinta’s fig-goat-granola pancake proved to be the best beach food pancake, made with local figs and goat cheese.
These innovations not only boost beach buffet traffic but also strengthen local producers and enrich the Balaton lakeside holiday with unique flavours during the season. 🐟🏖️
